Intern Introduction: Labib Mahmud

My name is Labib Mahmud, and I’m a 16-year-old student currently studying at Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. I’m an ambitious teen who loves exploring beyond my capabilities. That means I like learning new things; e.g, a new language, photography, electrical design, etc. I like to challenge myself because life is short. My AP Calculus BC and AP US History classes are particularly challenging. Besides academics, I’m on the track team and work out in my free time. I work another internship at the Museum of the City of New York, where I learn to enhance my photography skills. I found Premier Chess through my job provider, HANAC.

While I have not played chess in a while, I used to play competitive chess in elementary school. I first started out terrible at chess, but I rose up the ranks and won 12th place in the city. I like playing these kinds of strategy games because you need to develop your own way of winning, and you can only solve that by competing against others. Besides improving your critical thinking skills, chess also strengthens your sportsmanship. Being able to recognize that I lost and will improve next time is important for everyone. I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to work at Premier Chess and I hope to get job experience and improve my chess skills simultaneously.
